The Modern Construction Tech Stack

Stop doing double entry. We build integrated financial ecosystems where the field talks to the office automatically.

The "One Source of Truth" Architecture

A disjointed tech stack leads to data errors and blind spots. We require our clients to operate on a cloud-based "Triad" architecture. This ensures that when a Project Manager buys lumber in the field, your financial reports update instantly.

1. The Foundation: QuickBooks Online (QBO)

Why we require it: It is the only General Ledger that integrates seamlessly with every major construction management tool.

Note: We do not support QuickBooks Desktop because it breaks the real-time data link needed for accurate WIP reporting.

Our Role: We manage the Chart of Accounts and the bank feeds within QBO.

2. Project Management (The Field Source)

We specialize in the "Big Three" construction management platforms. We configure them to push Cost Codes, Bills, and Invoices directly into QuickBooks.

Buildertrend: Best for Custom Home Builders & Remodelers.

Procore: Best for Commercial & Large Scale GCs.

Knowify: Best for Specialty Trades & Subcontractors.

CoConstruct: Best for Custom Builders needing heavy client selections.

3. Expense Management (The Receipt Capture)

Tools: Dext or Divvy.

The Workflow: Your guys snap a photo of the receipt at Home Depot. The AI reads the vendor, date, and amount. We code it to the specific job. No more shoeboxes of faded receipts.

Construction companies lose profit not because jobs are bad—but because data is scattered between the field, project management, and accounting. built on the 4D Construction Financial System. Construction accounting in Utah, serving nationwide.

Your systems were never meant to operate separately.
We connect everything so your budget, job costs, and financials stay in sync 24/7. Built for builders, remodelers & GCs, spec builders & trade contractors.

We Are Integration Architects

Buying the software is easy. Making it talk to accounting is hard.

Mapping Cost Codes: We ensure your "Framing" code in Buildertrend matches your "Framing" Service Item in QuickBooks.

Sync Error Resolution: When the sync breaks (and it will), we fix it so your books don't get out of balance.

Historical Data Migration: Moving from Desktop to Online? We handle the data migration and verify the balances.

NAHB Chart of Accounts

Most bookkeepers set up accounts “their way,” not the industry way.
We rebuild your accounting structure using the
official NAHB Chart of Accounts, ensuring:

  • Correct job cost categorization

  • Better budget alignment

  • Cleaner job profitability reporting

  • Bank & bonding-ready financials

  • Easier communication with CPAs

This is the foundation of construction accounting done right.

WIP Reporting (Over/Under Billing)

WIP is where contractors find out if they’re really profitable—not the P&L.

With our WIP reporting, you can see:

  • Earned revenue vs. billed revenue

  • Cost-to-complete

  • Over/under billing

  • Projected final margin

  • Whether cash flow issues are coming

Outcome: No more surprises. Accurate, GAAP-aligned financial clarity.

ASC 606 Revenue Recognition

ASC 606 requires contractors to recognize revenue based on progress, not invoices.
We handle:

  • Percentage-of-completion calculations

  • Performance obligations

  • Revenue timing

  • Matching revenue to expenses

Outcome: Cleaner financials and no mismatched revenue.

Common Questions About Construction Software

Does Buildertrend integrate with QuickBooks Online?

Yes. Buildertrend offers a two-way sync with QuickBooks Online. However, it requires precise mapping of your Cost Codes to your QuickBooks Product/Service items. If this isn't set up correctly, you will duplicate expenses and ruin your job costing data.

Why do you recommend QuickBooks Online over Desktop for contractors? QuickBooks Desktop is powerful but isolated. QuickBooks Online (QBO) allows for "API" connections, meaning your project management software, time tracking, and bank feeds can all update the ledger automatically. For a modern contractor scaling to $10M, real-time data accessibility is more valuable than legacy desktop features.

Can you help us migrate from Excel to a real system? Yes. If you are currently running your business on spreadsheets, we will implement the "Construction Triad" (QuickBooks Online + Project Management Software + Dext). We will build your data structure from scratch using the NAHB standard chart of accounts.
